Cars: Your car window has a little

A motoring expert has highlighted a hidden safety feature found in many new cars that drivers may not know about.

The TikTok user @chequanxiaoqiao posts short videos informing viewers on how they can make the most out of their vehicle, including how to unlock your car if your key fob has stopped working.

In her latest video, she informed drivers about a simple trick that stops objects from getting trapped in the windows.

She explained: “Pull the window lift switch for five seconds, the one-button window lift function and the anti-pinch function are set successfully.

“Lift and lower the glass with a single touch. When the window detects an obstacle, it will automatically lower and prevent hands from being pinched.”

With many new cars featuring one-touch electric windows, which the driver only needs to press once to fully open or close, they could risk getting their fingers trapped.

The function described by @chequanxiaoqiao uses sensors to detect whether an obstacle is in the way of a window as it shuts, stopping the window where it is if something is found.

In the video, @chequanxiaoqiao held the electric window switch up for five seconds in order to turn on the feature.

However, whilst many modern cars feature anti-trap windows, drivers are reminded that the method to activate the function may vary on their model.

Drivers are recommended to read their vehicle’s owner handbook for an exact method to turn on the feature.

Reading the handbook may also reveal numerous other functions that drivers are unaware of.

@chequanxiaoqiao also suggested that drivers should set another function on many cars which adjusts the mirrors to automatically dip when reverse gear is selected, making parking the vehicle easier.

She explained: “Align the mirror switch to R [right], put into reverse gear, then adjust the rearview mirror lens to the position where you can just see the rear tire.

“The automatic flip function of the rearview mirror is set. When you put it in reverse gear the rearview mirror will automatically flip to prevent scratches on the tires.”
